Gut Healing Gummies Recipe

By

Gummies are gelatin ‘lollies’ sweetened using fruit. They are easy to make, contain only a handful of ingredients and use the gut-healing superstar, gelatin.

Gelatin contains amino acids that helps to seal leaky gut, feeds the good bacteria in your intestinal tract and can improve sleep, reduce inflammation, reduce sugar cravings and can help with joint pain.

"Gelatin contains amino acids that helps to seal leaky gut and feeds the good bacteria in your intestinal tract."

Gelatin makes up almost one-third of all the protein in our bodies and not having enough affects our joints, our skin and our gastro system.

Traditionally through eating all parts of the animal (organ meat, marrow and bones), cooking in animal fats and drinking bone broth or stock we got enough gelatin. However, because of modern lifestyles our intake of gelatin-rich foods has drastically decreased.

Gelatin is basically cooked collagen and comes from the bones, hides and connective tissues of animals
. Gelatin is found in concentrated amounts in foods like bone broth, but also comes in a powdered supplement that ‘sets’ liquids and turns them to jellies.

Kids love these jellies and they can be made into fun molds or set into squares.

Like all lollies these gut healing gummies are best enjoyed in moderation

Serves 20-30 | GF, DF, RSF

Makes 20-30 jellies or squares depending on the size of your moulds.

There are numerous gelatin gummy recipes on the internet. Our base recipe is a hybrid of Pete Evans and Sarah Wilson’s gummy recipes.

Base recipe for Gelatin

  • 1 cup of liquid,
  • 1.5 Tablespoons of gelatin,
  • 2-4 tsp of sweetener of choice, or none if sweet enough for your tastes. Start with less, you can always add more if needed. You can also add spices or a squeeze of lemon or lime juice if wished.

Instructions:

  1. Liquid could be pureed fruit, fruit juice, coconut water or coconut cream.
  2. Put liquid, sweetener and gelatin in a saucepan and heat over a low heat, whisking until fully combined. Cook for another 5 minutes until simmering at the edges. Do not boil!
  3. Pour into molds or a glass/ceramic or plastic container and pop in the freezer to set for 15-30 minutes depending on the size of your container or moulds.

Note: Some molds are fiddly and sometimes the gummies can get a bit stuck. Molds are great for getting kids to eat them, but here at BePure we find it easiest to simply use a plain glass container and cut into gummy squares.

Berry Gummie Recipe

  • 3/4 cup of frozen berries
  • 1/2 cup of coconut water
  • 1.5 Tablespoon of gelatin we love the great lakes brand - the red container.
  • sweetener if using. Maple syrup or raw honey work well

Instructions:

  1. Heat your frozen berries until defrosted but still cold.
  2. Puree them in your blender.
  3. Strain your berry puree through a sieve to remove any seeds. This should leave you with 1/2 cup of berry juice. You can save the berry seeds to stir through coconut or greek yoghurt as a snack.
  4. Place the berry juice, coconut water, gelatin and sweetener, if using, in a saucepan. Heat over a low heat, whisking until fully combined. Cook for another 5 minutes until simmering at the edges. It should thicken a little Do not boil!
  5. Pour into moulds or a glass/ceramic or plastic container and pop in the freezer to set for 15-30 minutes depending on the size of your container or molds.
