Gluten Free School Lunch Ideas

By

Ben Warren's nationwide tour: The Hormone Secret

Making your kid's lunches interesting, delicious and especially healthy can sometimes be a challenge.

We often get questions from parents about healthy options for kids and how to ensure they're getting a range of nutrients to support overall health, gut health, digestion and energy.

To make things easier, the BePure team have put together a list of gluten-free ideas for you.

As a guide, we always try and include a good source of protein – leftovers are great for this, plus seasonal vegetables and fruit.

  • Roasted Veggies - Check the roasting times per veggie as they may differ. When they are done, pour some lemon juice over them and a dab of gluten free pesto, your kids will love it.
  • Egg Wraps - Check out our BePure recipe and filling suggestions.
  • Burrito Bowl - Basically everything you could put in a burrito wrap, but without the wrap. Brown rice, beans, capsicum, avocado, tomato salsa and corn. If your kids go well on dairy you can put some cottage cheese on top.
  • Good Quality Gluten Free Wraps - You can use all the leftovers in your fridge to fill a wrap. Think shredded chicken, lettuce, cucumber, cheese and hummus.
  • Homemade Sushi - With salmon, avocado and cucumber.
  • Gluten Free Pasta Salads - The possibilities are endless. How about chicken or canned tuna, basil, broccoli, pumpkin and mayo?
  • Omelette - Another one of those dishes where you can throw in almost everything. Serve it with a green salad with cucumber and an orange and parsley dressing.
  • Stuffed Kumara - Try this with quinoa and veggies and they will have energy for the whole day.
  • Salad - Again, there are many combinations that work well. One of our favourites basic combos is chicken, hummus, carrots and cheese.
  • Bacon and Egg Muffins - It’s very easy and a guaranteed success. Put bacon strips in a muffin tin, crack an egg in it and bake it for 30 minutes on 180C or until cooked through.
  • Frittata - There are many recipes for a delicious frittata. Try one with mint, peas and feta.
  • Quiche - You can make a quiche with gluten free pastry, the kumara and spinach combo is really nice.
  • Red or Green Slaw - These last well throughout the week, and are great as a side salad to accompany leftover meat. You can find the red slaw recipe and the green slaw salad recipe on our website.
  • Rice Paper Rolls - These delicious colourful rolls will brighten up your kids day!

Lunch Box ideas

Keeping your kid's lunches cool and fresh is important. We love Lunchbots and Planetbox stainless steel lunchboxes. Planetbox also comes with magnet stickers so your child can decorate and personalise their lunchbox.
