Self-care is an expression of self-compassion.
By self-care we don’t mean eating cake and buying another pair of new shoes. We’re talking about meeting our inherent needs for wellness – social, physiological, environmental and psychological. BePure and Ben Warren’s area of expertise is in our physiological needs – more specifically, our nutritional needs.
Our goal is wellbeing of the whole being, and we believe this starts from a physiological level. If we are adequately nourished, we feel energised, more grounded, think clearly, sleep better, our hormones are balanced we can do the things that truly excite us in life.
With the increased stress of modern lifestyle, the lack of nutrients in our soils and thus in our food, it can be exceptionally difficult to meet our nutritional demands from food alone. Nutritional support gives your body the essential nutrients it needs to function optimally each day, which will help you feel your best.
Adding ‘Good’ In with Nutrients
Restricting ourselves doesn’t promote a life of self-compassion, so instead of giving things up entirely, start by adding 'good things' in.
One way of adding ‘good’, is by adding in plenty of nutrients to continue nourishing your body. The simple way to do this is remembering to take your nutritional support.

Adding in nutrients will support your body at the times when creating fresh nutritionally dense meals aren't your top priority. At least your body still has all the essential nutrients it needs. This will promote a happy, healthier you throughout the silly season and lessons the pressure of trying to ‘do it all’.

Why it’s important to love your body with nutrients
1. Energy to do the things you love
Restore and re-energise your body with optimal levels of nutrients such as B-vitamins, vitamin D, zinc, selenium and vitamin C. B-vitamins, in particular, are essential for energy production at a cellular level. This means the more b-vitamins you have, the more energy your body will be able to produce.
2. Quality Sleep
Magnesium is vital for good quality sleep. Research has shown that magnesium increases sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep time hormone melatonin and decreases serum cortisol concentration.
As you can see, sleep is so important – as it is during this time that your body repairs and restores and because our body produces day and night-time hormones, our entire hormonal system is tightly regulated based on our sleeping patterns. We encourage you to really indulge in great sleep by nourishing your body with the nutrients it needs.
3. Support for your liver
Our livers require adequate nutrients to process toxins out of the body. Love your liver with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants this summer to support your liver to clear any extra toxins, particularly if you do indulge in a glass of red wine or extra coffee. Without adequate nutrients, the liver is unable to successfully detoxify toxins from the body.

4. Balancing your precious hormones
Every part of your body is interconnected. And your hormones are the key to bringing all your body systems together in perfect synchronicity, as they play a huge role in how you feel on a daily basis, both physically and emotionally; from energy production, how you sleep, your mood, weight management and sex hormone production.
Vitamins and minerals act as cofactors for every single metabolic reaction in the body. This means that every time our body creates a hormone, it requires a nutrient to do so. Support your hormone balance with a high quality, high strength multivitamin and omega 3 fish oil. Without nutrients, our body struggles to make hormones in sufficient quantity for optimal health and energy.
5. Support your mental wellbeing
Micronutrients actually support our mental wellbeing too as they are essential building blocks of our neurotransmitters and hormones that orchestrate our feelings on a physiological level. Cortisol production is prioritised over any other neurochemical as for thousands and thousands of years, that would have been the most essential for survival.
When we experience stress of any kind, our body has in increase in cortisol which requires micronutrients to produce. And as we know, stress is incredibly prevalent in our modern day lifestyle, which means our cortisol levels are higher, and in turn our bodies are burning through our nutrient stores faster. So when it comes to making dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin – the 'feel good' neurochemicals, being nutrient deficient, as we so often are, means we may not actually don't have enough building blocks.
